Doi Suthep Temple

This temple is Chiangmai 's most important and visible landmark, and overlooks the city from its forested mountain backdrop. Wat Pra That Doi Suthep is 10 kilometres from the town site, it 's 3,520 feet above sea level, and dates back from 1383. The temple is approachable by foot, by climbing a step Naga stair case comprising of 290 steps. The less energetic may ascend by a funicular railcar. The temple's golden pagoda contains holy Buddha relics. The temple compound offers an exhilarating view of Chiangmai 's city and the surrounding countryside.
